Pickin' Party in Golden Gate Park
Saturday, May 22, 2010
Noon to 6 PM

Come to a bluegrass picking party in Golden Gate Park on Saturday, May 22nd, starting at noon and going 'til 6 pm at the Dahlias Picnic Area near the Conservatory of Flowers. Bring a side dish or something to throw on the grill along with something to drink. We'll bring plates, cups, utensils, and condiments. Bring your instruments, friends, and family. Chairs might be handy too.

The grove is hidden away behind the Garfield statue on JFK Drive. There's plenty of room to spread out and have several jams. We're also not far from a restroom building.

This event is sponsored by the California Bluegrass Association and is open to all who play or like to listen to bluegrass music. You can enter a free drawing to win a pair of tickets to the Father's Day Bluegrass Festival in Grass Valley. For anyone who likes bluegrass music and wants to get out and pick in beautiful Golden Gate Park or make some new friends, this is a chance to have a good time and learn more about the California Bluegrass Association. DIRECTIONS BY CAR: Enter the park from Fell Street and keep to the right to stay on John F Kennedy Drive. Make the first right onto Conservatory Drive East. Follow the curve and park anywhere along the road. Take the path on the left that goes downhill. At the bottom of the hill turn right and the Dahlias Picnic Area will be on the left.

Or you can take the second right off of JFK, when you see the statue of Garfield (the president, not the cat). Park at the end of that road near the Conservatory and look for a path that will take you to the Dahlias Picnic Area. There will be signs to guide you.

You can also park along JFK.

DIRECTIONS BY MUNI: Take the 5, 21, or 33 and get off at Fulton and Stanyan. Take the path that starts at Fulton and Stanyan, cross Conservatory Drive East, and follow the path downhill. Turn right at the bottom of the hill, and the Dahlias Picnic Area will be on the left.
